The news that Johnny Depp has lost his libel case against The Sun, which accused him of assaulting his ex-wife Amber Heard, has done nothing to curtail the actor’s thriving career, as he today signed a 6 figure deal with Stella Artois to front a new promotional campaign, “the wife beater”.

The star’s agent, speaking off the record, said that although they had initially been worried in the wake of #MeToo that being found guilty of domestic abuse might hamper Depp’s career options, in fact a number of offers of work have already come flooding in.

As well as his new role with Stella Artois, Depp, who is best known for portraying a paedophilic chocolatier, has reportedly signed a deal to collaborate the rapper Chris Brown on a concept album, and is in talks about co-presenting a remote podcast with the ex-Paralympian Oscar Pistorius.

As domestic abuse rates have more than doubled under lockdown conditions, a number of women’s refuge charities have expressed dismay at the news. Fortunately, Hollywood has been more forgiving, and Depp is reportedly favoured to play a lead role in the upcoming Woody Allen biopic, playing his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow.
