After the ratings hit of David Hare’s ‘Roadkill’, starring Hugh Laurie, a follow up is already in the pipeline from Derivatiiv Productions. Praised by critics and viewers alike for its forensic focus on a handful of soft-left talking points from roughly 2014, Hare’s series has prompted speculation about the veteran writer’s next move.

In ‘Roadkill’, Hare deftly mixed a murderous international conspiracy with NHS privatisation by simply forcing the issues together. Viewers have applauded the bravery with which Hare abandoned narrative coherence to pedal a dubiously thought through anti-establishment angle.

Twitter user @GiveHareMoreWork remarked: “Wow! Good to see that someone in the media is finally speaking out against this issue! Had no idea that so many people were being murdered to cover up NHS privatisation – we’ve got to be vigilant!”

‘Railed’ is set to star Rupert Grint as a jaded civil servant who discovers a deadly private sector plot to allow WH Smith into the incoming CrossRail tube extension. A BBC source has described this Transport for London exposé as “a biting, chilling depiction of central London, who’s depiction of TfL will reverberate around every corner of the country for generations to come.”

When asked to comment on the shoehorning in of Miliband-era social commentary, Hare remarked “I wouldn’t say I’m shoe-horning, [sic] shoe-horning would be difficult. This is more like putting on a slipper.”

When asked to comment on 2 and 3-star reviews for ‘Roadkill’, Hare retorted that “The star ratings probably only go up to three anyway.”
