In the midst of new allegations of entrapment that have swirled around Martin Bashir’s infamous 1995 interview with Princess Diana, the veteran BBC broadcaster is conspicuously absent for medical reasons. Bashir is accused of forging documents to entrap the Princess of Wales in a now-iconic interview.

In the 1995 interview for the BBC’s Panorama, Diana made a series of shocking revelations, for instance admitting that her marriage with Charles was not entirely happy. Moreover, she remarked “there were three of us in this marriage”, glancing guiltily at one of the drawers in her bedside table.

Bashir is now under pressure to account for his actions, but a source close to the broadcaster has reported that he has suffered a “quadruple heart bypass”.

When pressed on this unlikely number of bypasses, Bashir’s source remarked “or… triple, if that’s more believable.” This journalist, for one, was convinced! To add to this unlikely and unlucky medical bonanza, the source added that “he also has complications from Covid.”

“What are the complications from Covid?”

“That the allegations are coming out during lockdown.”
